Unemployment benefit has eased out some of the problems faced by people who have been laid off. Also, there is a standard criterion for applying for these benefits. Some people wonder if they are eligible for the benefits if they have voluntarily resigned from their job. The fact is that a person is not qualified to receiveunemployment benefits if he or she resigns from their job on their own accord.

In some rare cases, the employment office does start paying out the checks for a couple of weeks after you quit your job. However, when they cross check with your employer and get the details on your voluntary resignation, you will be required to return the amount to the employment office. If you have been forced to resign, then you will need to approach the employment benefit organization in the right way. Otherwise they may just dismiss your case and you will lose the chance of getting the benefit forever.

Resignation is viewed as a voluntary decision by the State employment office and that is why they reject the claims straight away. Instead of applying directly, it would be best for you to go through an attorney who could give you the right advice on labor relations. Also, if you are still on the job, speak to your supervisor and say you cannot resign voluntarily because you would like to apply for unemployment benefits.
