Ongoing funding is through an annual fund and the fund can be used as the organization wishes to use it. Many non-profit organizations have their own stores, produce their own products or provide a service. These are also sources of ongoing funding. Many foundations give non-profit organization multi-year grants and these grants are always for a particular period of time but the money can only used for the project for which the grant is given.

Episodic funding is through foundations and corporate grants. It can also come from special events or a behest. These funds can be used either for a particular event or for anything that the non-profit organization sees fit.
